Rob Marshall is the latest to gush over Halle Bailey in The Little Mermaid!

The director of the upcoming live action Disney movie has opened up about her audition for the movie, where he asked her to sing “Part of Your World.”

“When she finished, I was in tears because she’s so soulful,” he told Variety. “You could tell right away that she was able to harness Ariel’s passion, her fire, her soul, her joy and her heart.”

He also dished about how she looks with red hair, her performance while filming and the “Part of Your World” reprise.

Find out what else he said inside…

“Halle had this incredible facility to be able to dig deep, find the truth of Ariel’s passion and her heart,” Rob said of Halle‘s acting. “It was like watching a great film actor being born.”

Of her red hair in the movie, where they used her “trademark locs with some looser tresses,” the director said, “She looks stunning in red hair; not everybody does.”

In the original animated film, the “Part of Your World” reprise shows the iconic moment with the waves splashing behind Ariel.

“[Halle] sings that moment up an octave from the original,” Rob dished. “It’s the most chilling, and the most thrilling, film moment because it crystallizes not just her incredible vocal ability but the emotional passion she has in singing it.”

If you missed it, one of Halle‘s Little Mermaid co-stars said that she made quite a few people cry on set with her vocals.

There are going to be original songs in the new live action The Little Mermaid!

The upcoming Disney movie is set to come out in 2023.
