James Gunn, who is co-CEO of DC Studios, is writing and directing the upcoming film, and he has previously commented on what he’s looking for in someone to play Superman.
“The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has, but he’s also an alien,” he shared with Variety a few weeks ago. “It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”
According to Variety‘s Marc Malkin, Pierson sent in a self tape, “which included a montage of footage showing his very Clark Kent-like childhood on a farm in the small town of Moses Lake, Wash.”
James reportedly liked what he saw…
Superman: Legacy is “the true beginning of the DCU,” according to James Gunn, and is set to be released on July 11, 2025.
“It’s not an origin story,” Peter Safran, co-CEO, DC Studios, said. “It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks that kindness as old-fashioned.”
Other actors who have been reportedly in the running include David Corenswet and Jacob Elordi, who James has denied.
