'One Piece' Producer Says There Were 'Passionate Discussions' With Manga Author Over Adaptation

Executive producer Steven Maeda is opening up about adapting the One Piece manga into the new Netflix live action series!

The brand new adaptation just debuted on the streaming service TODAY (August 31) and all eight episodes are now available to watch.

In a new interview, Steven dished on what it was like working with Eiichiro Oda on bringing his manga to life, and making different changes to it.

Check out what he said inside…

“It was more like coming up with ideas and then presenting them to him, and so, you know, he had oversight and and definite input on everything,” Steven told The Wayne Ayers Podcast of Eiichiro Oda, who is also an executive producer on the series. “And it wasn’t so much saying, ‘Hey, Oda San, how do we do this?’ as saying, ‘You know what could be really cool, is if we tried this, or introduced this character earlier, or brought, you know, Garp in the marine pursuit in from the beginning? Hey, how might that work?’ And then let’s run it by him and see what he says.”

“There were very passionate discussions about, and a lot of agreements, and a lot of disagreements about how things should go,” he added.
