“I actually haven’t seen the Zombies franchise, what it is now,” he confessed to Shine On Media‘s Lisa Hiser. “Mainly out of probably being jaded and like, ‘Oh, I wanted to do that!’ But I know that Milo‘s a phenomenal guy. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times, and have people that have worked with him in close proximity. They say he’s phenomenal, so, very happy that he was the one to take the mantle of Zed.”

“Our version was definitely, it was very weird? I don’t want to say weird. It was definitely different for Disney Channel,” Luke continued. “It was a musical still and it broke the fourth wall, which I believe they still do in Zombies. But it was very whimsical, I will say. Todd Strauss-Schulson was the director of the pilot and he had just came off of [A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas], so he had a very different from the Disney Channel energy, which was cool.”

“The pilot ended up coming out really cool, you know, as an artistic thing, but I see why Disney Channel was like, ‘Huh? What are we going to do with this now?’ Had to kind of rethink and rebrand it, and so I’m sure it works a lot better now,” he concluded.

Six years later, the Zombies & Cheerleaders pilot was reworked with writers David Light and Joseph Raso, and it was turned into a movie, which has now become a four-movie musical franchise. A potential fifth movie is on the horizon after a teaser at the end of Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires.

If you didn’t know, Luke can currently be seen starring in the new horror movie Don’t Log Off with girlfriend Ariel Winter. Watch the trailer and find out how to watch on JustJared.com
