Yasmin Finney Didn't Know She Got Cast In 'Doctor Who' At First: 'It Had a Code Name'

Yasmin Finney is opening up about getting cast in Doctor Who!

The 19-year-old Heartstopper star will be making history in the upcoming 60th Anniversary special as Rose, where she will be the first Trans actress to play the Doctor’s companion in the main series.

“If anyone would have told 8-year-old Yasmin that one day she’d be part of this iconic show, I would have never in a million years believed them,” she said after her casting was announced. “This show has a place in so many people’s hearts, so to be seen as a trans actress by the legend himself Russell [T Davies], has not only made my year, it’s made my life. I cannot wait to begin this journey and for you all to see how Rose blossoms. Get ready.”

In a recent interview, the actress dished on getting cast in the role, and how she didn’t even know she was auditioning for Doctor Who at first.

“I mean it’s obviously got a lot of history, hasn’t it? To play a character with such history, even just the name, you’ve got that pressure instantly that I didn’t have with Elle. It was a complete mind-blowing experience when I got cast. I can’t really relive it because I was so in the moment,” Yasmin told Collider.

“At first, [the show] had a code name, and then I found out what the show was and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve just been cast in Doctor Who.’ It’s a trans character as well, and it’s such a blessing as well to be able to play such a monumental character like Rose,” she added.
